Technology services, solutions and consulting firm Pactera Technology International on Wednesday opened its first India office in the city. It has 21 offshore delivery centres as well as centres of excellence world over.

It would be a delivery hub catering to customers in the U.S., Europe, APAC and China and an innovation centre focussed on emerging technologies such as AI, Machine Learning, blockchain, cognitive capabilities, senior executives of Pactera told media at the inauguration.

“We anticipate India operations to grow to 3,000 people in the next 18 to 24 months,” said Venkat Rangapuram, SVP and GM (North America, Europe and IDC).

The Pactera Technologies India Pvt. Ltd. facility, at iSprouts Business Centre in Hi-Tec City, can seat 150 in Phase-I and 300 more in the next phase. From the existing 70, the headcount would increase to 200 by December.

Agreeing that the company would soon run out of space, VP and Country Head, India Delivery and Innovation Centre, Narayan Murthy said Pactera would like to have its own facility. “It will start working on that next year... talk to the government (on land),” he said, adding that the investment on the campus could be around $2 million.

Start-up ecosystem

Besides talent availability, Hyderabad’s start-up ecosystem is something that impressed Pactera. Mr. Rangapuram said the company wants to work with T-Hub as a step towards engaging with start-ups working in emerging technologies.

The Pactera was also open to acquiring start-ups, again those in the areas of emerging technologies. Mr. Rangapuram said it would begin considering acquisitions after 6 to 9 months.

On the talent pool, he said “we see a strong alignment with the talent available in the Hyderabad market and what our company wants to accomplish.”

Innovation and solutions

VP-Solutions and Platform Innovation Dinesh Chandrasekar said the India delivery centre would focus on innovations and solutions in EDGE (Engineering, Digitalisation, Globalisation and Emerging Technologies). Besides engineers, Pactera India would be recruiting arts and science graduates as well, he said.

Globally, Pactera has 30,000 employees.
