Thank you for your interest in taking part in this survey.
Participation is voluntary. Below is some information about the survey to help you decide if you would like to participate.

Aim of survey
The researchers are interested in your experiences of health research training and journeys in study and work. For instance, there would be a question on your thoughts about the level of quality of training in research skills. As well as this, the researchers seek to understand what avenues in health research and employment people intend to take after graduation. The survey also asks about your views on potential strategies for improved capacity building of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health research workforce.

This is the final stage of a project reviewing progress in the Indigenous health researcher workforce since 2000 and will culminate in a national forum and report with suggestions for strengthening the workforce.

Participation time
The survey will take around 15-25 minutes to complete.

Who is conducting the survey
This research is being conducted by Professor Shaun Ewen (lead researcher), Post-Doctoral Fellow Tess Ryan, Professor Cindy Shannon, Research Fellow Chris Platania-Phung and Professor Margaret Kelaher.

Possible risks
The questions asked by the researchers will be about your experiences and views in regards to research training. We do not feel that these questions should lead to any distress felt by the participant, and as such will only generate a negligible risk.

The data collected will be strictly confidential and not accessed by anyone other than the researchers. Results of this research will be reported and presented as group trends and anonymous statements.

Possible benefits
Participants will receive a $30 gift voucher for the Co-op bookshop as reimbursement for completing the survey. On the final page of the survey, an email contact will be provided so that participants can notify of survey completion and a reply email of the voucher will be promptly sent. All participant email addresses will be kept confidential and separately from the survey data. Contact details will be accessible only to the researcher issuing vouchers (Chris Platania-Phung), and will be destroyed when the survey research is over.

Through the survey, you will have the opportunity to reflect on your journey in research training and the workforce. All participants in the survey will be invited to a forum to discuss how the findings may be used to immediately shape the next steps in strengthening the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander workforce.

Reporting of survey findings
The survey results will be presented as papers at conferences, published in peer reviewed journals and summarised at a national forum. However, you will not be identified in any reports, publications or presentations.

Funding
This research is funded by the Lowitja Institute ($140,370).

Research ethics
This survey and the broader project has been approved by the University of Melbourne Research Ethics Committee: Ethics ID 1750826.
