We are thrilled to announce that just like our 10c containers, our lids get a second life too. By partnering with six local businesses, we have found a long-term recycling solution for the lids on 10c containers. More than 780 million 10c containers with lids are sold in WA each year, which means this Australia-first initiative will be keeping more than 100 tonnes of lids out of landfill every year. WA's lids will now be picked up from refund points by WestTip in the Perth metro area and by Cleanaway Waste Management in the regions, before being transported to Total Green Recycling where they will be decontaminated and sorted into plastics, steel, and aluminium. The steel and aluminium lids will be sold to recyclers, while the plastic lids will be sent to Claw Environmental to be made into pellets for manufacturers to use. Rombus Industries in Bibra Lake and Novaplas Group in Canning Vale are two local businesses who are using the pellets to manufacture items such as plastic grids for concrete hardstands, roads and pavements as well as for concrete spacers. This is a win for both local recycling and manufacturing, bring on the lids! #4ChangeWA #ContainersForChange #DontFeedTheFill #Recycling #LidRecycling #WAjobs #WasteManagement #Manufacturing #Circulareconomy Department of Water and Environmental Regulation
This is brilliant. Such a great recycling method.
Well done to everyone in this circular supply chain. Love it.
You guys are on fire recently!!! Awesome collaboration. Can't wait to see what you do next 😍
Are the plastic lids all made from the same plastic. I thought that some times they are PP other times from PPE. It would be so good and much easy if it was mandated to only one plastic type. Also the label could also be made from the same plastic. Then instead of unscrewing the lids and taking off the label it could all be granulated and separated in a water bath.
What an incredible impact!!
Nice work #rombus
Great news. Will the messaging change around removing lids going forward, or will the consumer still be encouraged to remove the lid but just deposit it in the CDS bin along with the container?
Great work the next step for return schemes. Well done to all involved !!!
Positive story to read on a Sunday night - great work!
Recycling, procurement and waste disposal innovation.
2yThis is such an awesome project to be involved in. Love the collaboration, working with local manufacturers and reprcessors. It's very rewarding to see a waste item that had been sent to landfill, now being diverted and recycled into the local economy.
