Police in Monterey are investigating a burglary that happened around 2:20 a.m. Monday at the Monterey Bay Collector’s Lounge.Enrique Villarreal, the owner of the shop, said thousands of dollars of sports memorabilia was taken in the heist.Surveillance footage shows a person, wearing all black, running out of the shop and out of the broken glass door."When we arrived on scene, the front door had been smashed with an unknown item and two suspects entered the business and stole two boxes," said Monterey Police Sergeant Gabriel Kaster. The stolen boxes had over $25,000 worth of rare sports cards inside of them."High-end 49er autographed cards. There was a Mike Trout signed baseball, and that box alone probably estimated value between $4,000 to $6,000 in just those cards. The office was broken into, and we're still assessing the value of the cards and boxes that were stolen from our office," Villarreal said.Among the stolen cards was also a rare rookie card of Jacksonville Jaguars Quarterback Trevor Lawrence"The main card in question is a Trevor Lawrence. It's a one-of-one rookie card, estimated value anywhere between $8,000 to $12,000," Villarreal said.A second piece of surveillance footage from inside the store showed what police and the owner believe to be a second suspect, who appears to be dressed in all-white clothing. The burglary happened within just a few minutes, which is why many believe they knew what they were looking for."We had a client bring some cards around Friday for consignment and those items, I believe, were specifically targeted and were stolen," Villarreal said."I think somebody that did their homework on the store and maybe knew what to do and what to take," said John Martin, a longtime customer. If anyone has any information about this incident, they're urged to contact Monterey Police Department.
