Uber is launching mindfulness exercises with meditation app Calm (Uber)

Uber has teamed up with sleep and meditation app Calm to offer passengers mindfulness exercises while travelling.

The ride-hailing service says the aim of the sessions is to help passengers relax or improve focus while they’re en route to their destination.

Users can choose between four relaxing exercises which will last between three minutes, five minutes and 30 seconds, 12 minutes 20 seconds and 30 minutes – the most common lengths for Uber trips.

An Uber spokesperson said: “Some 54 per cent of people use their time in an Uber to scroll through emails, social media and the news on their smartphones, so on your next Uber trip, escape your work for just a few moments to unwind.”

Drivers using the Uber app will also be able to stream a special three-minute clip so they can also enjoy the benefits of meditation between trips.

The launch follows a recent survey that found 37 per cent of adults are exhausted by the prospect of the coming year.

In a survey of 2,000 adults living in the UK by market research company OnePoll, more than half (56 per cent) of participants said they want to leave their current job, while 46 per cent thought their current lifestyle is making them stressed and unhealthy.

In addition, almost a third (31 per cent) feel they might get “burnt out”.

“The short time you spend in an Uber is a perfect occasion to pause, slow your racing mind and regain balance,” said Calm’s head of mindfulness Tamara Levitt.

“Meditation has the power to guide you to a calm state of awareness that you can take with you into your day.”

The meditations are available on the Uber app for the next month.

Uber users can also claim a 30-day free trial of Calm by heading to blog.calm.com/uberuk.
