How are Aotearoa New Zealand’s emissions reduction target and emissions budgets decided?

Next year the Commission will be consulting on three pieces of draft advice regarding Aotearoa New Zealand’s emissions reduction target and emissions budgets: – Advice for the fourth emissions budget period (2036–2040), and potential revision of emissions budgets one, two, and three. – A review of whether emissions from international shipping and aviation should be included in the emissions reduction target. – The inaugural five-yearly review of the emissions reduction target. In this webinar Climate Change Commission Chief Executive, Jo Hendy, and our staff will explain the process we are taking for these three pieces of advice, how you can contribute during the consultation and answer questions you may have. Government policy needs to keep pace with what is required to meet Aotearoa New Zealand’s emissions reduction commitments – the purpose of these three pieces of advice is to help chart the path to the low emissions future.
