The power of music and what it does to a child's brain

Students at Challis Community Primary School in Armadale have been on a remarkable journey.

And it's all thanks to a determined principal who introduced a music program to some of her students.

Their transformation has been the subject of an ABC TV series called Don’t Stop the Music.

Their mentor was Australian music sensation Guy Sebastian and music educators who nurtured the students love of music.

In this Focus discussion you will meet the people involved in the show and find out the impact a music program had on the students.

You will also understand why music is such a powerful learning tool and how it impacts on a child's brain.

Hear from Challis Primary School principal Lee Musumeci, Dr Anita Collins a music educator who helped set up the music program at Challis Primary and Micheal McCarthy, senior lecturer in Music at the WA Academy of Performing Arts who was the classroom music and choir mentor.
