PUNE:
Sasi Kumar Mukund maintained his dream run to oust sixth seed Jay Clarke and move into the quarterfinals, but local lad
Arjun Kadhe lost to Canadian Brayden Schunur in the second round in the $50,000 KPIT ATP Challenger men's tennis event here on Wednesday.
It was a tale of two wildcards. Mukund, ranked 355 in the world, was leading the 181st-ranked Briton 5-7, 6-4, 4-1 when the latter conceded with a back spasm.
The 370thranked Kadhe, who had knocked out second seed and India No. 2
Ramkumar Ramanathan in the opening round, tried to match Bengaluru Open semi-finalist Schnur shot for shot but eventually ran out of steam to go down 5-7, 2-6 on the Centre Court at the Balewadi sports complex.
Mukund will take on top Radu Albot. Schnur, faces
Frederico Ferreira Silva.
Chennai's 21-year-old Mukund broke Clarke in the third game for an early lead, but the 20-year-old from Derby fought back to uncork back to back breaks in the 10th and 12th games to snatch a 1-0 lead.
