Franchising and Licensing Association (Singapore), also known as FLA (Singapore), one of the founding members of the World Franchise Council, was established in 1993 with the mission to nurture and develop Singapore's franchising industry. An essential component of Singapore’s knowledge-based economy, FLA (Singapore) promotes and facilitates the use of franchising, licensing and branding as a growth strategy for Singapore enterprises, thus contributing to turning Singapore as a regional franchise and license hub. Through its partnership with Singapore government agencies and international franchise and license bodies, FLA (Singapore) also assists its members in their international development programmes. #FLAMembersNetworking (8 May 2024) We had 20 representatives from 16 companies this afternoon engaged in active discussion on franchisee management – key takeaways incl: • It is critical to ensure financial stability of franchise partner • SOP that worked well in SG might require adjustments for different oversea markets • Have a good understanding of franchise vs legal practices before entering a new market • Official and professional agreement (based on SG law) & trademark registrations in oversea markets are a fundamental requirement before internationalisation • Mitigate risk by (1) detailed background checks and really knowing them before confirming a partner (2) close monitoring of partner – some red flags include brand inconsistencies, payment delays, etc (3) increase territory rights progressively upon achieved set goals Special thanks to #Commune & M1 for making today’s session possible. #FLAAGM Update We are excited to announce that the Franchising and Licensing Association (Singapore) 30th Annual General Meeting (AGM) was held on 27th March 2024, at XM Studios @ Kitchener Complex with a total of 74 attendees from 52 FLA member companies. FLA President, Mr Dickson Low, on behalf of the 27th Executive Committee, expressed appreciation to partners (SPTel, M1, GoPizza, Subway, Kopifellas, Polar Puffs & Cakes, XM Studios and MUSE).
