We are all creative beings; it is an innate quality of being human.

The internet seems to be crammed full of methods, hacks, tools, or strategies that purport to tell you how to be creative.

But we are all individuals and the ways in which we manifest our creativity will vary from person to person. What works for one individual will not work as well for another and then won’t work at all for another still.

We are drowning in information – in answers – but the trick to understanding creativity lies in asking the right questions.

As a former performer and arts manager, now mentor, facilitator, and writer, I have learnt the value of asking the right questions instead of reaching immediately for the right-sounding answers.

How can we explore our own creativity? How can we gain an understanding of what fires our imaginations and of what compels us to sustain effort in making creative work? An understanding of this helps us to understand what kind of creative work we want to do, and the conditions under which we need to do it. This understanding is the result of deep reflection and the gaining of self-knowledge. And the way to do this is to start asking yourself the right questions.

The Right Question is a collection of provocations designed to help you to reflect deeply on your creative identity and practice.

Which questions are ‘right’ for you right now?

Which questions open up space for thinking, feeling, and imagining in such a way that your sense of being creative is rejuvenated? These right questions are their own answers.
