Description

This Symposium aims to increase knowledge of critical pedagogy and its relationship to teaching, learning, and community engagement at Victoria University of Wellington. Throughout the day we will ask: how does foregrounding indigenous epistemologies speak directly to Victoria University of Wellington’s strategic intent to commit to the Treaty of Waitangi and take a strengths-based approach to our Māori and indigenous student population? This 2019 Symposium is an open call to students and staff at Victoria to come together and not only learn about critical pedagogy but also how to action it.

This event is supported by a VUW Learning and Teaching Fund grant. One of our goals is to produce research outcomes intended to foster and facilitate engagement with critical pedagogy. We see the Symposium as a research method - collaborative, participatory, face-to-face - that can drive the design, content, and structure of an edited book, and channel the critical pedagogy momentum at VUW into achieving change. Part of the Symposium will involve discussing future research directions.

Numbers are limited and the event is only open to staff and students of Victoria University of Wellington.
