Hyderabad, Nov 30 (UNI) The Indian School of Business (ISB) hosted the inaugural edition of the international conference on 'Innovation & Entrepreneurship in the Smart Cities of India' at its Hyderabad campus on Friday.
This multi-city conference is being organised by Ureka Education Group, UK and UVC Institute, UAE and France in coordination with the Indian School of Business.
Shri Arvind Kumar, IAS, Principal Secretary, Municipal Administration, and Urban Development, Government of Telangana and Mr Srini Raju, Chairman, Sri City, and Member, ISB Executive Board inaugurated the conference and delivered the keynote addresses.
The daylong conference focused on how tomorrow’s cities should be a “smart and sustainable one, where urban value innovations based on citizen-centered improvement initiatives need to support social, economic and environmental innovations.”
In his chief guest address, Mr Srini Raju, Chairman, Sri City and Member, ISB Executive Board opined, “When we develop or expand a city, we need to follow the principles of sustainability, and major pillars like water, energy, mobility, and clean environment should receive focus right at the conceptualisation stage.”
Expressing his thoughts Professor Chandan Chowdhury, Associate Dean, and Executive Director, Munjal Institute for Global Manufacturing and Punj Lloyd Institute of Infrastructure at ISB said, ‘'India will witness massive urbanisation, and systematic approach is required to make cities sustainable and meet aspirations of citizens. ISB’s infrastructure institute is creating awareness about the important dimensions.'’
Professor Philippe Bouvier, President, Urban Value Creation Institute, UAE and France, in his address, emphasised that “To be truly sustainable, the city of tomorrow should move from an organisation in silos to collaboration and coordination. The whole city is more than the sum of its departments.”
The conference saw speakers from the government, private sectors, and academia share their thoughts on a variety of issues and concerns related to smart cities. Every session saw speakers sharing their resourceful insights on topics such as the role of education in developing smart cities, innovation, and entrepreneurship and global challenges and value creating as well as a vision for developing a smart city.
