PUNE: It was curtains for local boy Arjun Kadhe in the singles as he went down to Canadian player Bradyen Schnur 7-5, 6-2 at the KPIT MSLTA ATP Challenger in progress at the Balewadi Sports Complex here on Wednesday.
In the first set, Kadhe was broken in the third game but the Pune lad came back to break Schnur in the eighth game and level scores at 4-4.
However Kadhe lost his serve again in the 11th game to give Schnur a much needed respite.
Schnur who served seven aces in the match took the 12th game and took the set with the score of 7-5.
In the second set, Kadhe was broken in the first and the seventh games and could not recover. The 189 ranked Schnur closed the match 7-5, 6-2.
Meanwhile, fourth seeded Prajnesh Gunneswaran and wildcard Sasi Kumar Mukund kept the Indian flag high as they made it to the last eight stage.
Wildcard Mukund who pulled out during warm up against Saketh Myneni last week took close to two hours to upset sixth seeded Englishman Jay Clarke who conceded the match at scores reading 5-7, 6-4, 4-1.
In the other quarterfinal, fourth seeded player Prajnesh Gunneswaran showed his growing prowess in world tennis as he took just 53 minutes to outpower German Qualifier Lucas Gerch with the score of 6-1, 6-3.
Top seeded Radu Albot of Moldova, third seeded Elias Ymer of Sweden, Frederico Ferreira Silva of Portugal, Aleksandr Nedovyesov of Kazakhstan and German Sebastian Fanselow were the other players to make it to the last eight in the singles.
